LAMBARENE : Deux trafiquants d’ivoire interpellés
Huit mois après l’arrestation des individus qui avaient soustrait près de 80 kg d’ivoire des scellés du Tribunal de Première Instance de Lambaréné, une nouvelle affaire de trafic d’ivoire retentit dans cette ville.
En effet, une nouvelle interpellation de deux présumés trafiquants d’ivoire dans la ville de Lambaréné a été confirmée le 17 février par une équipe composée par les agents de la Police Judiciaire du Moyen-Ogooué et ceux de l’administration des Eaux et Forêts, appuyés par l’ONG Conservation Justice.
Au cours d’une transaction qui a pu être avortée, deux pointes d’ivoire ont été retrouvées dans les mains de M. MD, de nationalité gabonaise. Il n’a pas tardé à dénoncer son complice ghanéen, M. BBK, qui sera interpellé quelques heures plus tard par la Police Judiciaire et les Eaux et Forêts de la ville de Lambaréné.
Selon les déclarations de M. MD, détenteur des défenses d’ivoire, ils les auraient ramassées en forêt dans la zone des lacs, à plus d’une heure en pirogue de Lambaréné. M. BBK, son complice, aurait joué un rôle non négligeable dans cette affaire puisque sa plantation faisait office de cache des pointes d’ivoire destinées à la vente.
M. MD et son complice M. BBK sont accusés de détention et complicité de détention illégale d’ivoire, tentative et complicité de tentative de commercialisation de pointe d’ivoire. Ils encourent jusqu’à dix (10) ans de prison conformément aux dispositions des articles 390 et 392 du nouveau code pénal.
Ils sont actuellement gardés à vue en attendant la suite de la procédure.
Pour rappel, le Gabon abrite 60 % des éléphants de forêts d’Afrique. Cette espèce emblématique demeure sous la menace du trafic d’ivoire. Conservation Justice concentre une grande partie de son activité pour lutter contre ce trafic lucratif depuis 2010 en appuyant l’administration des Eaux et Forêts et les forces de l’ordre pour identifier les trafiquants, afin qu’ils soient arrêtés et condamnés. Conservation Justice a ainsi contribué à l’arrestation de plus de 500 trafiquants d’ivoires, dont 80 % condamnés à des peines de prison.
