L’équipe composée des éléments de l’antenne provinciale de la Police Judiciaire d’Oyem et des Eaux et Forêts, avec l’appui des membres de Conservation Justice, ont été informés des activités d’un réseau présumé de trafic de faunes composé de A.N.G.M, M F L, N.N.C et A J B. Les mise en causes ont été interpellés au cours d’une transaction. Le nommé A.N.G.M serait le propriétaire de deux peaux et des cinq dents de panthère.
A son domicile, une vingtaine de munitions, dont des balles 375 et des cartouches de calibre 12 double zéro, ont été découverts. Ses complices seront tour à tour interpellés. Le premier est le sieur N.N.C, retraité, il aurait abattu un éléphant puis extrait les défenses et prélevé la queue. La perquisition de son domicile au village Nkout a permis la saisie de plusieurs munitions (cartouches doubles zéro modifiées et 375). Le mis en cause a conduit l’équipe d’opération sur le lieu d’abattage du pachyderme. Des ossements ont été observés.
Le second, A.J.B, enseignant, serait propriétaire d’une paire d’ivoire prétendument trouvée en forêt. La perquisition n’a permis aucune saisie. Ces faits constituent un ensemble d’infractions des combinaisons des dispositions du code pénal (art.579), du code forestier (art.92 et 275) et une entrave au principe de la préservation de la biodiversité et des écosystèmes (art.3) adopté dans la loi 0002/2014 portant développement durable en République Gabonaise.
Ces dispositions visent non seulement à protéger les espèces fauniques en danger de disparition mais aussi au maintien de la durabilité des ressources naturelles. La sauvegarde des espèces de la faune sauvage et des forêts constitue également des perspectives pour le tourisme durable au regard des aspirations du Gabon en tant que puissance verte sur la scène internationale. Les concernés risquent jusqu’à dix ans de prison selon le code pénal.
