Ogooué-Lolo : Arrestation d’un présumé trafiquant d’ivoire à Lastourville
Les investigateurs en matière de lutte anti-braconnage et du commerce illicite de faune ont enregistré un nouveau cas de trafic d’ivoire dans la journée du 27 septembre 2022. Le coup est de l’antenne provinciale de la Police Judiciaire de l’Ogooué-Lolo et la direction provinciale des Eaux et Forêts, appuyés par Conservation Justice, ont procédé à l’interpellation d’un présumé trafiquant d’ivoire à Lastourville.
Selon les informations recueillies auprès de l’équipe mixte, le présumé trafiquant serait un employé d’une entreprise forestière de la place, la commercialisation de l’ivoire serait donc une activité parallèle qu’il exerce dans la localité avec plusieurs complices.
Au moment de son interpellation les agents de la Police Judiciaire et des Eaux et Forêts feront la découverte de deux pointes d’ivoire qu’il s’apprêtait à vendre. D’après ses déclarations, le véritable propriétaire des ivoires serait un récidiviste connu des services de police. Ce dernier serait en fuite et recherché activement par les unités de la police judiciaire.
Le présumé trafiquant devra répondre des faits de détention et tentative de commercialisation de l’ivoire. Il risque jusqu’à dix ans de prison conformément aux dispositions de l’article 388 du Code Pénal.
Il a été placé en garde à vue dans les locaux de la Police Judiciaire de Koulamoutou en attendant son transfert sur Libreville et sa présentation devant le parquet spécial.
Les condamnations des trafiquants à des peines plus dissuasives permettraient de maintenir la faune sauvage et de prévenir des cas de récidives aux infractions fauniques. Pour rappel, en 2019 le code pénal a renforcé les sanctions en exposant les délinquants à une peine maximale de 10 ans d’emprisonnement. Mais cette peine n’a encore jamais été retenue et les peines sont généralement de une à deux années de prison.
