Gabon, Deux présumés trafiquants d’ivoire arrêtés à Franceville dans la Province du Haut-Ogooué
OBISSA KARL alias Hans et MOUTOU HITE Guillaume Alias Chris ont été appréhendés par les agents de la Direction Générale des Recherches de la Gendarmerie et la Direction Provinciale des eaux et forêts du Haut-Ogooué en flagrant délit de possession et tentative de vente de deux pointes d’ivoire. Cette nouvelle opération de lutte contre le trafic d’ivoire au Gabon a eu lieu le 7 mars 2022 à la suite d’une information vérifiée concernant une transaction d’ivoire d’éléphant.
L’équipe mixte a déployé un dispositif sur le lieu de la transaction avec l’appui de l’ONG Conservation Justice pour mettre la main sur ces deux présumés trafiquants de nationalité gabonaise et domicilié à Franceville. Pris en flagrant délit en possession de deux pointes sectionnées en huit morceaux repartis en deux sacs aux dos, conditionnés pour la vente. Obissa Karl alias Hans et Moutou Hite Guillaume alias Chris risquent jusqu’à six ans de prison conformément aux dispositions de l’article 388 du code pénal en république Gabonaise.
Ce nouveau cas de criminalité faunique vient confirmer les conclusions du rapport de la situation de l’éléphant en Afrique. Selon l’Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature (UICN), les éléphants d’Afrique restent globalement en danger d’extinction, à l’exception de certaines populations d’éléphants stables comme au Gabon et qu’il faut de toute urgence protéger. Depuis dix ans, l’ONG Conservation Justice contribue à l’application effective de la loi sur la faune et la flore pour une meilleure protection des espèces menacées en général et des éléphants en particulier. Depuis une dizaine d’année, près d’un millier de trafiquants de faune ont été interpellés au Gabon, la plupart ayant été condamnés à des peines de prison ferme.
Au moment où nous mettons sous papiers cette affaire, les présumés sont gardés à vue à la Direction Générale des Recherches en attente de leur transfert sur Libreville.
